Treasures~ Old and New

As you know last weekend I spent 3 days with my Mammaw~ She gave me the most wonderful treasure. My great-grandmother Allie made this strip quilt in the laste 70's. ( She passed in 1980 ) Allie was my Poppaw's mother. Need I tell I you how valuable this ONE quilt is? It's PRICELESS. Just look at it.....

This quilt is made from mostly satin ( very few strips are cotton )

I love how some of the strips are uneven....everytime I look at it, I see something new

It's perfect on this $25 quilt rack I found ( during my lunch break ) yesterday :)

Oh, I bawled like a baby over this quilt.

Next, she gave me this beautiful piece of embroidery, it always hung in our living room when I was growing up. She embroidered this sometime in the 70's. It needs to be cleaned and reframed but I so love it.

Look at this gorgeous hand work

This is not old or a hand me down by any means, but she saw it and thought of me...truly special.

Last but certainly not least. When we got home from our anniversary dinner....this is what I found on our patio. Sweet husband, he knew I always wanted one.

CA-UTE!

Well, I couldn't hardly wait to share my old and new treasures with all of you. :) Have a great day!

Hugs~ J.

Wonderful treasures. The quilt is priceless indeed. I have a couple of quilt my grandmother gave me about 35 years ago (man I must be old!) and one that my mom, grandma and I all worked on together. There is nothing in the world like them!

Wait a minute, $25.00 for that beautiful quilt rack?! What a steal. That quilt is beautiful and satin is so hard to sew on and keep even. The hand work is amazing too. I do hand work and can appreciate how time consuming that piece was. Love what your sweet husband put on the patio too. The man's a keeper for sure! Also, thanks for your kind comments on my blog. If only my heart were pure gold, LOL! I have a few impurities in there yet to work out. Thanks again. I value your friendship.

The quilt has me crying. My mother always embroidered, I once knew how but haven't tried in years. I have the quilt my Mom was working on when she died. She was making it for a friend, we gave her the squares after Mom died but a couple of weeks later she called me and told me she wanted me to have it. Another friend sewed it together for me. It is a beautiful memory to be able to touch it.
I think your husband is a keeper! You tell him one of your cyber sisters says he is, okay? Thanks for sharing your treasures.

Hey Jessica!
What treasures here....that quilt and embroidery piece is so precious and beautiful too. My mama has a red, fushia, and yellow quilt that is silky material... her grandma made it. I always love admiring it. Most of the quilts my great-grandma made were cotton.... made from scrap clothing...I love those too and grandma could always point out what piece of clothing the quilt piece used to be... before it became part of the quilt. That's what makes quilts so special!
The wind mill is such a nice surprise...your hubby is a doll! Of course, I know you already know that! Hope you have a great weekend!
xoxo,
Queenie
