~ Growing Butterflies ~

Hi friends~

Lookie what we have here..... now when I first saw this caterpillar on my passion vine I freaked out because some of the leaves were getting great big holes and I thought I had a 'bad bug' on my vine. But, it isn't a bad bug at all it's going to be a butterfly! A Gulf Fritillary butterfly....these little caterpillars are all over this passion vine and range from tiny babies to big ones. They use the passion vine as a host plant...so we say we are 'growing butterflies'...lol.

{ sorry the picture is a little blurry }

I wanted to show you all the new buds on the vine....I thought it would never bloom.
I've never had a passion vine before and I am super excited!

Here is a bloom....YEAH!

& here is a an official Gulf Fritillary Butterfly~ we grew him all by ourselves....lol.

I just love butterflies.

Have a beautiful day~

J.

What a great experience to watch it come to life.. I have a passion plant and it still hasn't bloomed. I wonder how long they have to be around before they decide to grace us with their beauty... Hope all is well your way...hugs ~lynne~

Oh my gosh....I want to grow butterflies!! And a "passion vine," what a fantastic name with beautiful blooms! I love looking at your glorious plants that we don't see around here. Our friend is leaving Friday to go down to the Houston area. I wish I could hide in the back of the truck and come see you! Did you notice I put a picture of me on my blog....just for you!

Hi Jessica
Home grown butterflies, how cute!

You know I have a passion vine too, and it has two great big passion fruits on it, it does make a delicious drink, very refreshing!

LOL Jessica! You didn't notice those two pictures of me in the post?!! I can't believe you missed me! I got caught in a distorted view of me in the waterfall on two pictures!! The other one of our engagement is my favorite picture ever that I've taken. We have a 16 x 20 of it that I pulled out the other day. It's hung on our wall for over 26 years but I took it down last year since it was starting to sun fade so bad. When we repaint the room this fall it will go back up with our kids pictures around it but away from the window that lets the light hit it if I forget to draw the blinds! Take care dear friend and have a fantastic holiday weekend!! I'll be working so I'll be here checking out the computer in case anyone posts just for me, LOL!! Cindy

There was one year that my garden was over run with Monarch butterflies...now I love the little things...but they did so much damage to my plants...I was not impressed!

Hi Dear Jessica! Oh, that little caterpillar - they are cute, inspite of chewing up your plant. Oh, I don't know if I've ever seen a passion plant - it's beautiful! That flower is just amazing!
Have a great 4th,
Shelia ;)

My last post is like Where's Waldo? I just found me in two more places! LOL! And people say I never post pictures of myself, four times in one post plus one on the side bar. I think I've hit my quota for the rest of the year, LOL! Have a great holiday! Let me know if you enter the belly of the beast and get that closet done! LOL! I could use some motivation. If you do then I can say "if Jessica can do it, I can too" and maybe I'll get caught up around here!
