~ Custom Mantle & Family Room Reveal ~

Whew. Another room ready. This is what our patio looked like Saturday morning. Note our headboard and dresser out here~ now they are lovingly back in their renovated room. See the large object on the left that was caulked awaiting more primer, sanding and paint. I nicknamed it The Beast. Why? I spent a minimum of 8 hours working on it. 3 coats of primer and 3 coats of Sherwin Williams 'Casa Blanca'.....a gorgeous creamy color~ love it.
So, WORTH every pain staking minute.

Here is a little reminder of what our living....um....family room looked like before. Including a Christmas photo of our previous entertainment center.
Here is the after....

We've officially changed the name from living room to family room. :) A family room usually has a fireplace right? This project has been a long time coming. Like~ almost 2 years. Christmas 2008 Mister's parents bought us this fireplace { with remote and the heat can be left off or on...yay! } It's lived in our garage since then.

Our friend built this mantle/cabinet from scratch. I showed him an inspiration photo of what I wanted and him & I went to Home Depot and I picked all the wood and I picked the trim. I'll show more details of it later...things that my Mister wanted inside....like pull out shelves that also have rope trim. :)

Here is a close of the details...see the rope molding... primed and painted with a craft brush by me. {uggg } .... again so worth it.

It's no longer known as the beast it's exactly what we wanted.

The wrought iron and two pictures were formerly in our guest room....I think they look much better in here don't you? ( the guest room now needs some work....but I need a tiny break...lol. )

Close up of the mantle. I just love all the molding.

You know a relationship is all about compromise right? Mister got his ( overly huge monster ) tv and I got my wood floors. :) Now, what to do about hiding that thing....lol. Gotta love VISA!! I think they might love us, too.

We are really glad we didn't move and so happy with our new family room. It feels so open now....our home is tiny....but full of love.

Let me know what you think~ we would love to know your thoughts.

I think is is absolutely perfect!!! I love it...and I am loving the fireplace...better than the one I built a few weeks ago...I posted it...I have used a real firebox and an insert like yours...don't ya love that you can shut the heat off??? I am sure I never will get to shut mine off...it is darned cold here this week or two...and supposed to be worse by the weekend...
I have missed you so...things are just insane around here lately...no time for the computer it seems...and when I do I am too tired to read and comment to everyone. I love you guys...say hi to mister and kiss my genius for me! hugs sister!

The fireplace turned out just gorgeous as did the floors! I think the fireplace draws the attention away from the big tv! Great job!

Wow, look at all these comments! I don't see any need to try and hide the TV. I've never understood why people want to do that. My old entertainment center had doors to close in the TV but we never closed them bz we like to watch TV! Okay, Larry more than me but still....

Love, love LOVE the mantle! Oh my gosh as a cabinet builder I can see that he did a fantastic job. It takes so much work and the detailing is beautiful. I've really missed the smell of fresh cut wood lately. I'm thinking when Travis gets home we'll get a table saw bz that's really all we lack to make furniture again!

This truly is feeling like a new home. I love all the changes you did. About three or four years ago we redid Kaje's room and put in new carpet also. I couldn't believe the new feel that it gave everything in there. Surprisingly she still loves those checkered walls and the hot pink upper walls. We've swapped out her comforter and it made the bed feel new again. Someday...someday I'll get to do more of the house but until then I'll just enjoy your's! Great job!

Oh, I almost forgot. Yes, that's a real tattoo! Not a rub on one either. He celebrated turning 18 and got it. I'm not much of a tattoo girl but this one cracks me up! To sum him up he's a male version of Kaje'! The one scary thing about him is he's 21, aughhhhh!!!! They're now boyfriend and girlfriend so we'll see where life takes it from here.

I hope you keep blogging. I've noticed a mass exodus out of blogland of some of my favorite blogs. Rue and Picket just left too. Oh well, I'll keep doing it for my family and me! Hope all is going well and that you got to rest up this weekend from all your renovating of the house. It looks lovely! I bet even your laundry is all caught up now too the way you've been working yourself, lol! Only 6 more days until the stitches come out and I can catch up on the dishes again.

What a transformation it's beautiful! I love the floors and the mantle trim. We have the same trim throughout our home around all the doors and windows but it's stained dark. Enjoy.
